Wood petrified (stone)

   Description characteristic of the mineral.

At times in the process of forming of siltages terms at which wood of the lost trees does not collapse fully are created. Gradually substituted for its elements mineral components, including Quartz and opal with chalcedony. So gives birth on light surprising mineral of biogenic rock origin is the petrified wood. Often annual rings and even thin structure of cellulose which is noticeable under a microscope are saved in it.

Sometimes there is the second whimsical picture, reminding broad patterns on-the-spot jasper or agates. Usually the petrified wood has the grey and brown colouring and enough unattractive, however there are, brown, yellow and even blue its reddish standards.

The most large deposit of the petrified tree is known in Arizona near Kholbruka (THE USA). Length of stone barrels found there, whose century is estimated minimum in 200 million years, arrives at 65 m at a diameter about 3 m. In 1962 this district was declared a national park Petrifield-forest. The deposits of the petrified tree exist also on territory of the CIS in the Seashore edge of Russia, on Ukraine, in Georgia and Armenia USA. Used mainly as carpentry material and much rarer as exotic insertions in jeweller decorations (especially domestic handicraft and works of national masters).

Annually in nature plenty of trees perishes in natural way. Arboreal tailings gradually rot and processed microorganisms, here selected warmly, accumulated plants in the process of photosynthesis yet in the time of life. Microorganisms almost fully decompose an organic matter on gases, water and mineral salts. If access of air to the lost tree is laboured, complete oxidization of vegetable tailings, rotting and carbonization, coalification, does not take a place and they for a long time are saved or, gradually mineralization, petrified stone. They can appear under the layer of water or be catastrophically quickly covered a volcanic ash, landslide or collapse, glacial moraine or comings wind-blown sands.

The tree lost once can transform and in real stone. For this purpose, except for conform terms, time, calculated not hundreds and by thousands, but many million years, is needed. Mineral matters can fully substitute for all organic part of wood the anatomic structure of which sometimes is fully saved.

The photo of the petrified wood, found as a whole barrel and his large fragments paleontologists on territory of the Lugansk region of Ukraine is below placed - partly substituted for a tree an opal and saved the shallow details of the structure, it has visible gnaw through motions of prehistoric insects obviously, filled silicification by a containing rock. Due to the fine-grained structure of deputizing chalcedony and opal, a tree practically fully saved not only original appearance but also all of features and nuances of structure of wood.

It most beautiful and original on the picture of wood the petrified tree which I saw and got on the hip is has jeweller-carpentry quality and serves as unique, not having analogues in the world by material for work of Ukrainian national masters. In a neighborhood of place of his find a nature protection area must be created and the limited booty of wood is settled by prospector methods for work of Ukrainian national masters (CIS) - for the production of insertions in the decorations of national masters and exclusive table devices, from this wood Krivoy Rog ("Crooked Horn") of the Ukraine (Europe, CIS) masters made unique on beauty and decorative qualities table balls.

   Magic properties of stone.

Already in Assyria, Babylon and Ancient Rome the petrified tree was used simply as ordinary carpentry stone. From him did beads, insertions in rings, pendants and coulombs. From the Arizonan petrified tree on the border of XIX-XX century table top made, vases, candelabra. Nevertheless some people are inclined to examine connecting Heaven and Earth Tree as one of universal characters of the universe. In their hands the pieces of the petrified tree become original amulets, transmitters of ancient symbolism and global connection of times. It is considered that the pieces of the petrified wood prolong life the proprietor. Possibly, such persuasion is related to appearance of powerful tree, resisting destructive forces of nature.
